Top ten tips on taking that perfect fishing photo

This is the sort of shot you would be happy with. Well framed with good lighting and a nice level horizon. It is also nice to get some of the background in frame too as this helps to show just what sort of area the fish was caught in.

After an epic battle, that personal best ‘fish of a lifetime’ is boat-side and your mate has the net at the ready. You swim the fish into the net and breathe a sigh of relief as the fish is lifted into the boat……

A Taste for Outer Reef Reds!

When darkness closed in upgrading to large strip baits saw many hook-ups on red emperor like this one taken by the Author.

Gazing over the ocean view from my eleventh story Cairns hotel room it appeared seas had calmed and past imagery of aqua blue water, severely bent rods, and large red fish began to claim the mind…

Barbs raise concern

With the wet season pouring away and promising some great run-off fishing, here’s a preview of what we’d all like to experience: a big metre-plus barra thrashing away on the end of the line.

A heated fishing debate that has been taking place behind the scenes went public last week when both Julia Christensen’s ABC morning radio show and ABC’s Tales From The Tinny dived head first into the issue.

On the mark

Troy Ezzy fishes a tight drag and puts the custom built Xzoga through its paces on another solid fish. These blanks are beyond words and Larry does a great job it putting it all together.

I had heard rumours up this way of a ‘new’ mark off the coast that was stretching the arms of the few that had taken the time to venture out and I was keen to be a part of the action.

Fishing the ‘wet’ season

Not to be outdone, Jess Bovis caught her share of Daly River barra on the little Slick Rigs.

Well it had to happen sooner or later.
We’ve been pretty lucky with our wet seasons over the last few years but right now there is genuine cause for concern.

495 Arafura: bordering perfection!

Just have a look at how this boat performs on the water. This photo was taken at speed and look where the spray is coming off the hull. The choppy whitecaps in the background will show that conditions were not ideal on our test day.

Walking into a boat dealer and looking at the range can be quite a daunting experience, particularly in this day and age when there is such a wide variety of boats on display. I know this for a fact as I am personally looking for a new boat and have been for close on two years.

Cape York’s Fishing Hotspots

Aerial view looking back on the very tip of Cape York. If you do go for the walk to the tip, it is worth taking your fishing rod and casting a few lures from the tip. Many quality fish have been landed from this spot.

Cape York really is one of the ideal spots to visit for the travelling angler. With numerous options for the drive-in or fly-in tourist, and a number of quality fishing guides or self hire boats plus a generous amount of varied accommodation options the only limitation is knowing exactly where and when to go and just how long you have to spend there.

Plumbing your boat trailer

2	HELP WANTED! Most youngsters love helping Mum or Dad when they’re working on the boat or trailer, and they definitely save time by passing things to you while you’re wedged under the trailer.

Over the years I’ve had to patch up quite a few trailers suffering from the ravages of the salt water they are regularly drenched in while launching and retrieving boats

Maningrida Bust Up: 2011

A nice barra taken from an estuary system down the coast from Maningrida.

If you looked out from the boat ramp at Maningrida at 5.30am on the 5th and 6th of November this year, you could have easily been mistaken to think that you were in a much more populated area, rather than being in one of the most remote places in Australia.
